The worldmapper site is an archive of world maps, distorted so the area of each country is proportional to interesting data such as population, or wealth, or net immegration, or a whole host of other data sets.

The infant mortality map is incredibly depressing; it's all Africa and India.

I'm going to work these maps into my class next semester; I love sites which make it easy for students to explore data.
