The Second Sight stories are so painful to read and yet so deeply enjoyable; they're brilliant illustrations of the ugly unfairness of life and yet, because Sam and Dean persevere and continue in spite of it, they're also a beautiful testament to our will to live, survive, adapt and go on.

*hugs you*

::smishes you::

Sometimes I just need to write something that says in bib, bold letters, that LIFE SUCKS! But only sometimes. In between I am convinced they are actually very happy, and if not joyous then content.

I was just reading older chapters of this today at work and then I come home to this. I love the eventuality of Sam not telling the people, it's very gradual and the shift is wonderful. Sam being able to feel the deaths is terrible, but brings a visceral quality to an apsect of the story that might otherwise seem vague. This is so lovely. I especially loved the flowers, I love gardens and flowers and the vegetation here is almost another character.

I marvel at your mad psychic skills!! *g*

Seriously, I haven't even thought about this series in awhile and then this story just kind of shoved it's way to the front of the pack and wouldn't shut up until it was finished.

The roses are very visceral -- there's a bush blooming in our backyard right now, despite the heat and drought and every time I walk outside I Can smell it.

This put a lump in my throat and made my stomach queasy, broke my heart and made me remember all over again just how much I loved this series. As a kid all I read was animal stories, Black Beauty was definitely one of them.
This was absolutely beautiful like the scent of roses.

Thank you so very much. I read black beauty, but I was a bigger fan of The Black Stallion, yet the parallels here were much more accomodating of Sewell's novel. I'm so very glad it worked for you.

Oh, I loved this. I love how they know everything about each other, and Dean can't fool Sam for even one second, and how hard this is for Sam. I love all the stories in this 'verse, and this one hit me right in the heart.

Thank you, hon. I told Meg above that I'm not even sure Dean tries all that hard anymore. Like it's one thing when Sam could see and the whole give and take of affection was engineered on a level field. Now, I think Dean is less likely to hold back, because he doesn't actually like holding an advantage over Sam.

But he still doesn't always get that it's reciprocal, that Sam still hasn't given up on Dean having at least some semblance of normal life. I'm so glad you liked it.

I love the moment with the guns best of all, I think, which strikes me as strange, something I wouldn't have expected in the midst of everything else going on here. I think it's the unspoken-ness between Sam and Dean and how you've made their actions louder than words in a way that's also so very quiet.

Hee. The gun thing keeps sneaking up on me. It's a vestige of their old life, a reminder, but so is Sam's blindness. That what Sam might do or not do, is still such a concern for Dean, I think it makes Sam a little cranky and bitchy and sad. I think Sam takes promises very seriously.
