Absolutely brilliant! I love how you wrote the dialogue and the words differently between Narcissa-Augusta and the yeounger characters. Love the twist near the end when Augusta realized that the plan could easily backfires and that Narcissa will benefited from either outcome. Also love the dynamic between Neville and Draco, how Neville seemed so gentle and doted on Draco but turned out to be quite domineering when he's jealous, and how Draco didn't hesitate to reassure Neville that 'he doesn't have any reason to be jealous'. And the way you build up the tension when Draco had to face two ultimatums (Narcissa's and Neville's) made the end even more sweeter and satisfying.

Thanks so much for the lovely comment! I tried really hard to give Narcissa and Augusta the kind of voices that would suit them - a bit more proper and old-fashioned - and I'm so glad it worked!

For me the whole story comes down to Draco being forced to stop hiding and avoiding the issue and make his choice. So everything actually was a build up to that final scene when he has to finally look into himself and decide what he wants. So yeah, I'm glad you liked it!

With all the fests going on around Christmas and the amazing amount of fics that are posted it very easy for some to fall between the cracks. (I still haven't finished reading the hd_holidays fics!)

Thank you for giving this one a chance! And thank you so much for your lovely comment. It really made me happy.

Wow I just reread this months later and adore it even more. It still took my breath away and had me choked up. This is a classic darling. A true classic.

Thank you so much!

I would like to write a sequel to this sometime. (I consider my other Neville/Draco, Past, Present, Future to be a prequel) Unfortunately I am so preoccupied with my messed up RL at the moment that it will be a long while before I manage to do it.

Wow! This was my first time reading a Neville/Draco fic. This was great! I think you helped me like Neville/Draco together! I love when scheming guardians come together and bring unseemingly oblivious boys together! Narcissa and Augusta did right by there boys...

Hey there,

I'm a huge fan of Neville/Draco and I had ear-marked this story to read one day. I'm so happy I finally did. It's an amazing little fic you have here. You actually got me to tear up towards the end. I really felt terrible for Draco's situation and his fears that he couldn't keep both his love and his family. I think that's a sentiment a lot of queer people can relate to, and that you captured it perfectly.

Thank you for writing/sharing! I really enjoyed this one.

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment. I'm so glad my little story worked for you. It was my first time writting angst, so I have always been a bit afraid I went over the top. I'm so happy that you think I managed to properly capture the stress and pain of Draco's decision, I really wanted to do justice to the difficulty of such a decision, and I really wanted to give them a happy end.

M'dear, this was absolutely beautiful!!! For starters, I LOVE how you portrayed Augusta. I'm really quite fond of her and you just got her voice and her sensibilities down to a T. I also love how you portrayed Narcissa. You struck a great balance with her and how you really highlighted her love unconditional love for her son.

Furthermore, I adore and applaud how you handled Draco and what he was going through. You made my heart break for him. He's now fast becoming another character I'm intrigued with and may well love very soon.

And then there's Neville... my dearest most wonderful Neville. You treated him very well and handled his side beautifully. And Luna's friendship? BRILLIANCE. I've always seen them as great friends- like they have this unique bond.

Bravisimo Mayfly!

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I'm really happy you liked it!

When I begun writing this, I realised I hadn't written nearly enough strong female characters so I set out to rectify it. Narcissa and Luna have long been favourites of mine, but I grew to love Augusta too while writing this. I couldn't help but make the women a bit more perceptive and intelligent than the boys... (And people don't write nearly as much Luna-Neville friendship as they should. It truly is a shame!)

I think it's easy to see that Draco is my favourite character, he is so deliciously flawed and conflicted and grey. He's not unequivocally good and honest like dear Neville (or Harry). And that's why I like pairing them, I think they balance out nicely.

You want to know something funny? I've been reading a few Nev-centric stories with Augusta featured in it and two stories in particular really show her prominently and then reading this story of yours- well, it cemented my love for her. I'm now putting together an application to play Augusta (and Alice) in one of the HP rpgs I'm in (where I already play Neville and Arthur). ^___^ Honestly, last night I was supposed to be putting together Alice's app but Augusta just came in and stole the show.

Anyway, back to the story, I do love your Draco for that reason! I love characters that are flawed and marinated in shades of grey, and you're totally right, they do have a very unique complementary and balancing sort of relationship. It's quite beautiful, actually.

p.s. Would it be all right if I humbly request friendsies? You seem like a lovely person and it looks to me like we'll have many things to talk about and shared interests and such. :-)

Of course you can friend me! I really enjoy our little back and forward.

Unfortunately I am in the middle of a big upheaval at the moment (I'm getting ready to emmigrate to the UK from Greece), so I will be really bad at responding and generally being active until things settle down again.
