Oh, damn, Universe, what the hell?! :/ Seriously, this 2016 is a proper year from hell. Poor you and your mum! I can imagine it must be incredibly stressful and frustrating to you being far away and not even being able to be there for her. Which is your mother's first language? Greek or English? Because mother tongue and centre for foreign language in the brain are different, so if she's got aphasia, there's no saying she might not understand one of the languages.
My BF's mother had a mild brain stroke earlier (called TIA) in the year and she feels perfectly fine now, but it was a warning that got us all scared.
I hope your mum recovers soon and you can resolve the situation somehow. Sending hugs and some good thoughts your way!

Thanks! The hospital said it was a mild stroke, but we are worried because she hasn't said a word yet and looks like she can't understand what people tell her. My mother's first language is english. Her greek has always been very bad.

Sweetie, I'm sorry to hear that! I know it sucks that you can't be with your family at this time, but they will keep you updated. Take heart in knowing that if the stroke wasn't severe, your mom will get better each day. Part of her confusion now may be due to any meds they have her on. I'll keep her, and you, and your entire family in prayers.

Thank you very much! *hugs* I think a lot of my mother's state is due to shock and panic. She never reacted well to difficult situations.
