Luckily for Simon, Kaito was the one to answer the door. The magician blinked at Simon and peered at him up and down. After all, the last time he had talked to the boy, he had been brainwashed by the drones and was talking about how excited he was to go to school.

This could be a trap.

"What are you doing here?" he asked suspiciously, hoping that his new friend was at least back to normal.

For being only about four feet tall, Simon looked more hardened than the average adult. His arms were folded across his tee-shirt, which he seemed very uncomfortable in, and his hair hung into his eyes. He reached up when Kaito open the door, trying to adjust the goggles that were normally there, even when he slept. He would never get used to not having them...

"I need a shovel, remember?" Oh yeah. Simon was back to normal. Though he sounded a lot angrier than the last time they'd talked.

That tone of voice... and the request for the shovel. Simon was back to normal. Kaito let out a sigh of relief. He didn't know exactly what had happened to the other boy to make him so cooperative all of a sudden, but he had a feeling that strange police officer had something to do with it.

It was probably best not to get on the officer's bad side.

With a sigh, Kaito stepped onto the porch and closed the door behind him. He had found a pair of blue jeans and a plain T-shirt to wear too (it was better than those sweaters he had been forced into on his fist day in Mayfield). He jerked his thumb towards the garage. "It's in there." Then, he grinned. "Need help?"

Simon started to head to the garage. He glanced around, yet again, for drones. Awesome. None.

"I think I can handle it by myself." Pulling open the garage door, Simon glanced around. Why was everything in this town so strange? He grabbed the shovel, and was out the door quickly. "I'll bring it back when I find something."

Germany peered into the hole, blinking more than a few times.

"This isn't...a guerrilla trench, is it," he mumbled aloud.

Simon emerged from the hole--It was a little deeper than he was tall, and about twice as wide as he was. He rubbed dirt out of his eyes (oh, yeah he missed his goggles) with the only-slightly-less-dirty sleeves of his now-torn shirt, and looked around a moment. "We're... digging a tree." He hoped Germany would get his tone.

Kaito was standing inside the hole as well, his clothing covered and dirt and cheeks smudged with mud, when Germany peered inside it. He was still taller than the hole itself, so his head poked out the top.

He grinned. "Yeah, planting a tree!" he said, just in case any drones were listening.

Germamy blinked some more. It was something he did often, even since having to deal with the Italian, and he was finding himself doing it more and more when faced with the bizarre and unexpected of this new world he found himself in. You never can have too much blinking.

He raised an eyebrow at the two boys, but then looked around at the happily chatting drone-neighbors down the street, and the drone mailman riding by on a bicycle, tipping his hat as he passed the three of them. Germany understood.

"Well. Good luck, with your tree-planting," he said gruffly, "just be sure to do it properly, and don't track dirt into the house."
