event: population control
[Early on Friday morning, certain individuals all throughout town will be receiving a letter addressed to them from the Mayfield Census Bureau. It appears to be a somewhat strange letter; only the individual it was intended for will be able to open it, and once opened, it will appear blank to everyone but the intended recipient. For those who cannot read, the letter will contain a tape recording that will play the letters' contents, but none but the intended recipient will be able to hear the recording. An awful lot of security for what seems to be a basic form letter: ]

Thank you for your completion of the Mayfield census! Your time will help us work to create a better Mayfield. Due to your diligence, you have been specially selected by the census bureau to further exercise your civic duty.
It has come to the attention of the census bureau that the town of Mayfield had undergone an unexpected boom in population since the previous census. Unfortunately, not all of the new arrivals have been hard-working and productive members of society such as yourself. Fortunately, the Board of Expansion Approval has determined that Mayfield's current population is unsustainable and is therefore eligible for a Section C Population Reduction Program!
Our records indicate that you are eligible for participation in this program based on your response to census question 26:
26. Would you ever, at any point, willingly kill your friends and neighbors for the good of Mayfield? (specify Y or N): Y
Due to your tacit acceptance of the terms and conditions of the program implied by your submission of a census form, you have been assigned a Target specially selected by the Board for extermination. Please exterminate the Target in a timely fashion. Failure to exterminate the target will lead to the penalties spelled out in our terms and conditions. Upon the successful extermination of the target, you will be assigned a new target. Participants whose targets have all been successfully terminated by the following date of program completion: DATE TBD will receive compensation from the Mayfield Census Bureau in the form of the reward promised.

[Attached to the letter are three documents. The first is a piece of paper with a single name typewritten onto it, the name of an individual in Mayfield that has been assigned as your target. The second is a photograph of the individual, individuals, or some of the individuals listed in your response to Census Question 9. The photograph appears to have been taken recently, and is candid; the subject of the photograph does not appear to be aware of the photographer at all, although they are clearly very nearby. Finally, there is the following paper: ]
Rules and Regulations
1. A termination is considered to have occurred when the target can be considered to be legally dead and unable to be resuscitated.
2. Population Reduction agent does not need to personally terminate the target in order for the termination to be counted; death of the target is sufficient.
3. Population Reduction agents will not be permitted to tell others of their targets' identity except for the purpose of having the targeted terminated.
4. If the Population Reduction agent is terminated, he or she will not be considered to have successfully terminated the target.
Mod Notes: The event will officially begin tonight at midnight! No character will receive this letter before then. The mods will be starting to PM everyone their target now, and once you have your target, you can start plotting with your target's player. We suggest going to their character's contact post to discuss what's going to happen. We will try to have all of the targets out ASAP, but we can't promise they'll all be out in time for midnight. Also at midnight tonight, every character in Mayfield will immediately lose all of their regains. Characters participating in the event will find themselves physically unable to tell anyone their target's name, unless their honest intent is to have someone help them kill their target.
When your character's target has died in any way, please reply to the 'Target Death' thread below. Even if your character had nothing to do with the death, they'll still get a regain and a new target!
Remember, standard godmoding rules apply. At the same time, we ask that you be fair and allow your character to be killed if it would logically happen. If you need to drop out of the event at any time, please contact the mods ASAP!
We'll be taking questions in the thread below. To answer a question that came up quite a bit, characters won't be droned for killing characters who are participating in the event. However, they will be droned if they're causing a lot of property damage, a huge disturbance, or publicly endangering the lives of characters who aren't participating. Characters who aren't participating can try to save or kill characters who are, but please ask permission before jumping in.
Finally, to keep things fair and interesting, the mods have decided to autokill anyone who drops out of the event. If you try to contact the person you're paired with and do not hear back within 48 hours, please contact the mods-- we may autokill that character.
