Character Name: Ami Kawashima (aka Ami-chan, Baka-chi, and Amin) Character Series: Toradora! Character Age: 17 Background: Series overview: here There's not really a good source on Ami's background, so here's a supplementary one.
Ami's history prior to the series is vague at best. Her mother is briefly mentioned to be a famous actress- Ami inherits her looks and fame at a very young age, and is a well-established model. We also know she's a childhood friend of another one of the 'main' crew, Yuusaku Kitamura, and that she transfers over to live with her aunt.
Within minutes of being introduced, she royally pisses off Taiga Aisaka and flirts shamelessly with Ryuuji Takasu at Minori Kushieda's workplace. And so, the five main characters are all tied together! She becomes the mysterious and beautiful transfer student trope and ingrains herself into the main Toradora! posse entirely by

Background (cont.): It becomes clear the stalker has a profound effect on Ami. The whole issue so frightened her that she put her entire life on hold to avoid him. Every time he shows up, she drops everything- whatever pretenses, whatever conversations are going on- and hides.
She takes shelter in a parking lot with Ryuuji during a storm when he shows up again. However, the stalker has found a new target: Taiga. He starts snapping photos of her and exclaiming how adorable she is while Ami worries. What would he do? Wasn't Taiga scared? Why wasn't she running?
But to her surprise, Taiga was very obviously not frightened. She was too busy being furious. She scares the stalker off and Ami is left stunned. And apparently, rage is contagious

Personality:Ami-chan is just about the sweetest teen you can hope to meet, if not a hopeless klutz and in constant need of saving because of it. A pure soul with naivety written across her forehead. Not to mention she's drop-dead gorgeous. But no worries, she's really very modest about it, and doesn't want to rub her appearance in anyone's face and make them feel inferior or anything. All the attention she gets is actually a con for her, especially since she's so hard on herself, readily taking blame for just about everything under the sun. Kind and soft-spoken, it's hard to dislike Ami

Personality (cont.)This leads to many people saying she seems mature and adult-like. Minori states that Ami has worked in the world of adults and sees things differently from the rest of the students, and must be very patient to put up with them. Ryuuji is the only one who believes Ami is childish, for her eating habits (which involves gorging on sweets) and because he notices that she doesn't take care of herself very well. Ami agrees with the latter opinion, which may be why she eventually develops a real crush on Ryuuji. She also appreciates him for being a challenge (not fawning over her), his genuine care and concern, and because he treats her like one of his peers. She wants to be accepted for who she is
