Rory could say with all sincerity that the current turn in events had been the worst in his experiences in Mayfield so far. Not that he thought the fact was all that impressive, quite frankly- it was safe to say the same for half of the rest of the people there, and safe to say that the other half had probably seen worse.
Over a day into things as they were, and it was still edging on impossible to figure out what he was supposed to be doing, how he was supposed to be helping anybody. All it felt like he'd done so far was confirm the presence of more dead bodies than he'd wanted to keep count of, move on to standing around the remains of the Doctor's house, and have to actively remind himself every few hours that this was actually happening. Not much that needed a nurse- it actually seemed like anyone living he'd come across had been uninjured, with the exception of the Doctor.
This kind of destruction, this kind of body count... he didn't understand why things always seemed to have to escalate to that level. To the point where it was a welcome miracle that the people he knew and cared about the most were relatively unharmed. It was hard to see it happen. It was hard to know that so many people were definitively not all right and he was more or less no good when it came to fixing it- and it was something that almost everybody going through it could understand, one of the things that was keeping him from wrapping himself up in a pity party and making a bad situation even worse.
People wandered off from the house over the course of the day, off to check on friends and family, find supplies, possibly to keep trying to investigate the giant pillar of smoke that had appeared in the distance; until eventually the group had dwindled down to Rory and Se-- the embodiment of the TARDIS. She'd seemed pretty shell-shocked earlier, but who wasn't right about now?
He found himself sticking pretty closely to her- there wasn't much knowing what would happen next, if anything, but traveling in pairs and staying close to their home base of sorts felt like the closest option to safe to him.
