OkCupid is far, far better than the usual A/S/L dating sites that operate on the barest stereotypes and leave it up to the individuals to work out whether they are likely to be remotely compatible.

Yes, I have had jerk-contact messages but they are better quality, more amusing jerk contact messages. And there are fewer of them as a proportion of the contact messages that are just "meh" or "hmm, okay, interesting".

I hope you enjoy the site for the novelty and the quizzes, and meet some good folk. :)
