I hadn't thought about it this way. Sam's closing himself to his emotions and that's something I can understand. Fear of being hurt again, or having Dean hurt, maybe. And yet, you're right as it is dangerous, losing part of yourself, the most autentic part, even. It is like giving up on your humanity.
I can unerstand the reasoning behind it, but I really hope it doesn't go so far.
My thoughts on this whole thing are still only half-formed, as evidenced by my utter rambling, here. I'm just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. But yeah, I hope it doesn't go that way. :(
