I have seen several of these techniques used in the discussion of this argument. Especially "You Are Damaging Your Cause by Being Angry":

Thanks, hon. ♥ That's a very good link. I read it maybe a year ago and it certainly helped me understand a lot of things.

I realize now that the very TOPIC of this post invited derailment in the comments, and sure enough it happened. And happened. And happened. I shouldn't have been surprised. It's still sad.
