I was introduced to SnapChat as largely a sexting app. You can flirt and post and x-photo peep show easily with out it getting around school. I think that is the main appeal. Everthing else is secondary. LJ still has younger users but they are mostly involved in various long-form fandom stuff. Facebook on the other hand just feels colonized by grown ups and is increasingly geared towards a more grown up demographic.
