I like absolute quiet when I sleep, so that feature doesn't sound good to me.

However, it would be easy to do with a source of chess games.

Yeah, those can speak the time, but you have to press a button.

I want my talking clock to say more things than just the time too!

I used to have my computer play music in the morning and had timers turn on lights in my room in the morning.

Yeah, I have an outlet timer I used to turn on my lights when I was in NJ. It was always bright 24/7 outside, so I had to use thick curtains to make my bedroom dark at night. This meant that it was also dark during the morning, so a light helped that.
