It was just a simple tease, starting innocently, with no bad intentions from both sides - but things got a bit out of control and it ended in a way they both didn't long for.
Love sometimes acts crazy and weird, withdrawing people from each other instead of keeping them together. It's natural, though annoying and hurting.
"Sungmin" Kyu addressed the man next to him at that day. The latter lifted his head and looked at the other concerned. They were sitting in their room, on Kyuhyun's bed; Sungmin was reading one of his books to relax after their exhaustive schedule, in the meantime Kyuhyun was looking through a computer magazine, peeking at his lover from time to time.
There was something that was troubling him but he didn't really know how to tell it to the other one. But finally, he decided to risk and start the topic.
"Can't we do more fanservice?"
"Huh?" the elder got surprised by Kyuhyun's sudden question and didn't quite understand the matter. "What do you mean?"
"Well, you know... We're a couple, ne... But we have so little interactions in front of the fans and cameras..." Kyuhyun started to explain and coughed silently. Sungmin squinted his eyes.
"So...?"
"So it would be nice to do more fanservice. Since we're a real couple."
Sungmin just laughed and shook his head. "We don't need that, Kyu."
He wanted to get back to his book but Kyuhyun grabbed his hands and made him look at him again.
"But our fans...! Look at Eunhyuk and Donghae, for example. There is a lot of this EunHae stuff going on recently and the fans simply love it. Why can't we do something like this, too?"
Kyuhyun seemed to be quite serious with this topic so Min finally decided to pay more attention to what he was saying. He put his book aside, made himself more comfortable on the bed and after a short sigh he answered his boyfriend calmly.
"Because EunHae are friends and they like to tease their fans this way. But I don't want to change our love into a product."
The maknae eyed Sungmin, not understanding this explanation.
"A product...?" he asked suspiciously.
"Yes" Sungmin nodded and turned his head towards the wall. "This is what it would become. A product which we would be selling to our fans."
Kyuhyun only shrugged, hearing this. He still didn't understand to the end what the point of Sungmin's weird theories was.
"But what's wrong with it? It would be fun, I guess."
"Gosh, Kyu, don't you understand?" the elder finally started to get annoyed because of Kyuhyun's slow comprehension. Was it really so hard to understand this all? Didn't Kyu feel the same way, did he really have to explain all this to him like to a little child?
"Our love isn't for sale! And it's not just a show or joke either. I want to keep it for ourselves."
"I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of it. You just don't know how hard it is to refrain myself from looking at you, touching you or whatever when we're in public! It sucks!" Kyu burst out, letting all his feelings and emotions out with this sentence. He wasn't angry, no, he simply wanted to emphasize his state.
Sungmin however must have mistaken his lover's small outburst because he made big eyes and got speechless for one moment. He quickly recovered from this state though and couldn't help but also explode.
"I DON'T KNOW THAT? Puhahaha. You're wrong here, my dear. I know that way too good."
Sungmin couldn't stop thinking about how egocentric Kyuhyun sometimes was. The maknae only bothered about himself, his problems, his beliefs, his pain and lacked a lot of understanding towards his boyfriend.
"So why are you so stubborn about this no-fanservice thing! It would be a nice thing for both sides, for the fans and for us - because both would get what they want!"
Yes. Kyuhyun only saw positive sides of fanservice. It wasn't really harmful, was it? It brought benefits and things which bring benefits are most often good things.
"NO! Kyuhyun. I explained it already. I don't want to use our relationship in this way." Sungmin answered decisively and regarded the matter as finished. He picked up his book again, returning to reading it.
Kyu however had a bit different way of thinking and didn't want to give up so easily. He got a bit nervy about the way Sungmin treated him - or better said: ignored him - so he started to grumble under his breath. After a few seconds he reached out his palm to the elder, taking the book out of his hands and putting it behind his own back so that the latter couldn't reach it. Sungmin sighed and stared at his lover with an dissatisfied expression.
Kyuhyun continued the conversation, still trying to convince Sungmin.
"Remember our Mini Drama? There was a lot of fanservice, everyone was happy and you were at ease about it, everything was fine. Why can't it be like back then?"
"You so don't get it!" the older one exclaimed again. "We weren't even a couple then! It was just for fun and it was scripted anyway so how can you compare our situation to that times?! It's more serious now!"
"Because I miss it!" Kyuhyun shouted and banged his fist against the bed to enhance his confession. "I miss this freedom, the ability to be close to you in public whenever I want to! Without your constant worries about getting discovered and things like that."
"At least one of us cares about hiding our relationship." was the only thing that Sungmin could mumble after that.
Maybe he exaggerated a bit by saying this but it was true - it was another thing that annoyed him about Kyuhyun so much. He would love to see from time to time that his boyfriend also cared about their love and relationship, trying to help protecting it and looking after it so that it wouldn't leak out and become public.
But he didn't. At all. It was always Sungmin who had to remind him about not touching him and spending less time around him when they weren't at home, it was Sungmin who worried, always Sungmin.
Why?
"Eunhyuk and Donghae don't hide their interactions and everything seems to be one hundred percent fine." Kyuhyun tried to get the other members into the topic again.
"I TOLD YOU ALREADY! They're just friends so they have the right to fool around, don't you really get it?! We have to be more careful about the things we do!" Sungmin raised his voice one more time and started to have enough of this conversation.
"But WHY! People don't know that EunHae are friends and KyuMin are not - so what's the big deal!"
"Because their jokes are innocent; our interactions could get a bit out of control by accident."
"Ha. Nice explanation, really. You are just scared, that's it."
Kyuhyun said his words calmly but being greatly upset inside, that's why he accused Sungmin. After all, he still couldn't understand why his lover acted like this, stiff and stubborn.
He just wanted some fun! But it turned out to cause an unpleasant talk which started to get more and more nervous and would most likely end up bad.
And with his accusation towards the older one he ultimately made the other explode loudly and provoked the final quarrel.
"SCARED? OF COURSE I AM! I DON'T WANT TO RUIN SUPER JUNIOR'S GOOD NAME BECAUSE OF YOUR DAMN EGOISM!" Sungmin jumped out of the bed and stood in front of Kyuhyun now, facing him with a red and frowned face. He furiously pointed a finger at Kyuhyun, wanting to say something more but the maknae interrupted him:
"Eg- PFA! Good to know, Min, good to know! Yes, that's of course my egoism!"
"NICE!" the elder shouted almost his lungs out. "I'm glad you agree with me!"
"It's great egoism, wanting to please our fans."
"YOU STILL DON'T GET IT! Damn it! FINE! Just do your goddamn fanservice, whatever! You can be the one who gets us out of trouble then, when things get out of control, I won't even raise a finger for you!"
This was the moment when Sungmin couldn't stand this anymore and turned madly towards the door, wanting to get out of this hell as soon as possible. He was in the middle of doing so when Kyuhyun yelled to his back:
"GOOD! I'm happy to have such a caring and lovely boyfriend!"
It made the elder stop his action and turn to Kyuhyun for the last time. He sent him the most painful look he was able to produce and felt suddenly as if somebody threw a stone at his head. It was certainly a blow below the belt for him, hearing something like this coming out of his lover's mouth.
After a moment of feeling tearing pain and desperation, he tried to get this burden off his chest and brought himself to this last shout:
"WHAT! After everything I did for you... YOU'RE SO PATHETIC, KYUHYUN! PATHETIC! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!"
Sungmin left the room, banging the door loudly behind him. He ran to the bathroom, where he locked himself and collapsed onto the floor to bury his face into his legs. All the anger in him made his whole body shake - so he tried to calm down a bit. He felt like crying but he didn't do it; Sungmin almost never cried. He always carried all the pain inside of him, dealing with it as long as it finally vanished. Tears were unnecessary, his tears took the form of the ache inside each cell of him.
It hurt a lot at that moment. Too much.
Why did we even start this quarrel? Because of such a lame matter? This can't be true...
Sungmin took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
Everything is gonna be fine. But why does it hurt so much?
Kyuhyun had similar thoughts, still sitting on the bed and staring blankly ahead.
Be strong. This happens sometimes.
He didn't even notice when he finally started to let some tears fall on the bedding.
