Blahrr. That was so not as good as it made me think it was going to be. I blame Orlando Bloom. Last night I was writing an in-depth review in my head, recounting all the ways in which the movie could have been but was not awesome, but this morning I don't really care ( Read more... )

The first was revolutionary. The second though, just did not do much nor make me care about #3.

I liked a lot of 2, though it dragged on way too long. The first couple hours of 3 set up a lot of stuff that could have been really awesome, then wasn't.

The series as a whole is really way better than a movie based on a ride should be, but it's developed a knack for raising hopes and then dashing them.

Oh, I dunno. I actually liked #3 much better than #2, possibly better than #1, in a way. It had a certain tolerance for lengthy pacing without feeling draggy. I think that was helped by the humorous surreality that would last for whole minutes at a time... something I didn't think they'd ever try in a movie like this --tailored to a mainstream audience. And you're right about Naomi Harris. She outsexied both Depp and Bloom even with the bad teeth.

The humorous surreality was good. I also loved all the visuals to/at/from world's end, and numerous other things about the movie. Hmm. Maybe I should put in somei

One problem, though, was that the Calypso/Davey Jones romance was way, way more interesting and believable than the Turner/Swann romance, which had been pretty much forgotten for the better part of two movies to boot. So when they jumped back into that lame story at the end, it felt like it came out of nowhere, and was a huge letdown because I was hoping for some hot Calypso fury action that would matter to the story in some way. The best part of the movie basically became an excuse for a special effect, and then we were treated to pretty much the exact same pirate battle we'd already seen half a dozen times before.
