I just returned from the South, visiting family.
Strange thing that happenned to me at Golden Gate Park:
I was walking with my boss back to pack up things in a car. Both of us were dressed somewhat professionally.
An SUV full of young men drove by with their windows down - "Go back home, fags!"
I'd imagine we were in San Francisco, and if there was a home for "fags" it would be...well you know.
And I was the only fag among us. And I'm only half of one. I don't believe I looked it. There was no queer event in the park.
Bizarre.
Young men in SUVs with the windows rolled down are bizarre.

I'm guessing if one is the sort of neanderthal who yells "go back home, fags", then one probably imagines that any two men walking along together are gay.
Plus, hey, well-dressed!
