Gosh. I actually slept today. Something like twelve hours, almost completely uninterupted. This is the first time in a couple of weeks I've managed more than a couple of hours sleeping without waking up and managed to get more than 4 or 5 hours total ( Read more... )

Yes, this actually works!

One of my big things, I charge a site fee, $35 to go on site, but then I'll discount that if someone refered them to me or they work with a business I'm associated with or just about anything. So you put it on the invoice and then discount it on the invoice and they think are getting a great deal.

I've also used a good customer discount for people that have used my services more than once and folks really like to see that on an invoice.

Not when your competitor is un-affordable to begin with.

To be fair, I was quoting the "Big Box" stores here. I'm only a little under some of my private competition, the main difference is a lot of those you HAVE to know someone to have a connection to- many of the self employed computer consultants DO NOT advertise around here. If I was only that lucky...

Of course it allows me to someday tap a wider market they aren't going through an effort to reach. So someday it will pay off hopefully.

Yes, but you're in a situation that you could pick up and go for whatever you decide to do cuase you've been wise in your money management.

Being a talented programmer and knowing how to get more out of that business probably hasn't hurt either. :)

I shouldn't complain, things could be much worse. And I know that I'm responsible for most of my financial problems so there's no one else to blame. I just wish I had some clue about the future or some spark of insight or something that would get me going and keep me motivated so I could actually get somewhere.

Ah well, such is life. Might as well live it while we can. :)

You're still young enough to do alot. Do a continuing education course at the local community college. Real cheap, and a good way to get skills like artistry.

Shoot me an IM some time if you want to talk.
