I'm thinking Americans might be the best in assisting with this, with traditions and whatnot, but I'll take anyone's two cents, of course ( Read more... )

I agree with OMM, and, well everyone.
People love baby showers/babies...mostly.
The long Thanksgiving weekend would be nice as most families, or wait....it might just be mine....are sick of turkey and each other by Saturday. A cute shower would be a good reprieve. It may also be an excuse for those relatives who don't holiday with you anymore to do so, but travelling that weekend is expensive. So, uh, nevermind. I'm not much help. Mine were summer babies. :p
It is all very considerate of you, considering you didn't want to have a shower in the first place. ;) And a shower early or late, my bet is you get baby stuff for Christmas regardless.
Oh, and since I'll be unable to attend (invite or no...*giggles*) I'll guess 364 cheerios in that baby bottle.

*hugs*

Thanks for the comments!

Sorry, I am anti-game at my shower, but if you want, I'll set up an empty chair for you so that you can maybe win the door prize. ;D (I conceded to my MIL that we could do the number under the chair/plate thing for a door prize, but nothing else!) (And of course there's an invite for you! Dork. :P )

I was thinking pre-Christmas, post-Thanksgiving might actually get people to combine Christmas presents for y'all, ie. your shower pressies will be your Christmas pressies. This is sort of akin to having your birthday around Christmas. Now, if you don't care about that, then I say in between those holidays would probably be best. The other option is the way I voted in the poll--January. Like you said, post-holiday euphoria may still be in play, especially pre-holiday bills.

Christmas pressies really aren't a factor here, but that is a good point. Grandmas usually send checks, but other than that, it's just the parentals who do the pressie buying and honestly they're going to do everything no matter what we say because they are always in spoil mode and will be more so this year. lol

Okay, I know how you feel about this sort of thing... but here's my suggestion. And this is coming from a person who shops for babies but has not had one, therefore it is not motivated by greed but by a genuine desire to provide you with good stuff ( ... )

Aww, you're very sweet. I *was* planning on doing a registry, if only for the fact that I'm dead picky and want to receive what I want and have diligently researched. *g* But I think you're right in that once the invites with registry info are out, people won't feel obligated to attend if they can't, which is fine. Someone here suggested sending the invites out a little earlier than normal because of the time of year, which I reckon I'll do. I was planning on a trip to Babies R Us end of Sept/beg. of Oct, once we know that sex.

Hee! Well, technically speaking, moms-to-be don't plan their own showers either here. I, however, am a control freak and while I'm not throwing the shower myself, I am comandeering most aspects of it, otherwise it will be something that I don't even want to attend. This is mainly because its mom and mother-in-law who are doing it, which is, again, untraditional. It's usually a friend who is supposed to do it, but whatever, I wouldn't expect any of my friends to bear the expense of holding me a shower anyway.

Thanks for the comments! I think you're right about people being in holiday spirit.
