So, shooting an AK-47 underwater. Just sounds like something some redneck would do. That is until you get out the insanely high-speed camera, and start taking a serious look at what the physics involved do. That was nice!
The reason that the bubbles re-expand is that the momentum of the water as they collapse compresses the bubbles past equilibrium, they then re-expand again past equilibrium, and the cycle repeats until the excess energy is dissipated into the surrounding water.
