The Wire is over. Now, being unsatisfied by a series conclusion isn't uncommon. I'm hard pressed to think of any finale of a series I enjoyed that was anything more than barely satisfying. I've said in the past that I feel that The Wire ended with Season 3. Seasons 4 and 5 have been nice additions, but haven't been nearly as compelling since ( Read more... )

interesting. I felt the last season of the Wire wrapped up many things. It basically told you how the characters came to be. I don't think the point of Michael becoming the next omar was to cheer the fans on but to tell you how a guy like Omar came to be. The same can be said about Avon/Marlo or Bubs/Dukie.

If The Wire has told me anything, it's the cold hard truth. I don't think they ever tried to win me over... otherwise everyone in the team would have been promoted and Omar and Prop Joe wouldn't have died... but then that wouldn't be realistic.

They did show Cutty in the last season for one ep i believe. He was a cool guy. I was hoping for some more Brother Mouzone.

I hadn't really though about how Michael, Marlo, and Dukie were foils for Omar, Avon and Bubs. I like thinking about it like that. I get along with how the street side of things played out in the end. It's the cop side of things that doesn't sit well for me, doesn't feel true to the characters...except for maybe Lester. I was sortof expecting him to somehow take the hit for McNulty and Daniels somehow.

I just think that there wasn't enough intrigue at the end. I feel like Marla could've done something for Cedrik, since it was her ass on the line too.

Oh well. Back to season 1.

Season05 felt like a wrap-up from the beginning, for the most part. A bit of rush, and a lot more resolution than issue. I enjoyed it for all that, but I feel that it may be the shortening of the season that resulted in a semi-botched feel in the last few episodes to me.

I loved season04 as much as season01, and I felt much like the power of it was a joy to get, since I'm rarely impressed by two seasons equally in most series. There was just no way 05 could've felt like 01 after that. In that respect, 05 was nearly perfect, because it didn't try-and-fail, it finished the story in many respects, and it did so in a way I think I'll enjoy on a full series rewatch. Most importantly, without leaving me with some kind of series dump-shock.

I would still love to have the last 3 episodes rebuilt into a stronger 6 episodes.

I agree that missing three episodes made a big difference in the elegance of the closure. I was really expecting more intrigue and dancing about to try to keep Daniels at Commish. But then again, I guess it goes back to season 3 ( ... )
