I think my shock about the fanart is that Maruo's art style is so distinctive that it defies fanart. I mean, it's so clearly got the retro feel that's damned difficult to duplicate, that I'd never even consider doing it. Does that make any sense?
Bizarreness aside, Shoujo Tsubaki itself is pretty simple: young girl falling on hard times is taken into a situation that in a lot of ways is worse than the one she's coming from. And it also points out in quite a few places that the "normal" people are easily as sadistic as the "freaks". In any case it's certainly more linear than Suicide Club and Ichi the Killer. The time I spent watching those I'm never getting back. OTL
