I agree. It WAS really good and the darkness worked for the action but not the character stuff.

Only successful Animated boys film? Did I miss a memo? Were Aladdin, Lion King, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and the Incredibles all aimed at girls?

I meant made EXCLUSIVELY for boys. All of the films you mentioned were marketed towards whole families and general audiences. Any and all animated films designed to primarily put preteen and teenage boys in theater seats (Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Titan A.E.) all flopped at the box office. Boys sat out these films because of the stigma of cartoons being just for little kids. Teenage and preteen boys will go to see a live-action film based on a comic book but most of them aren't willing to go to an animated action film. The Incredibles could be considered an action film but I personally see it as a family film first (by the way it was marketed).

I just rented TMNT and as a diehard of the original Mirage run, I found this latest version to be two thumbs up. The best thing about the series and this movie is that it interweaves several genres together, originally spoof-like, but evolving into it's own. I've been waiting years for a legitimate fight between Leonardo and Raphael. The special features were great, too. All those alternate scenes and deleted stuff was interesting enough. I still think Munroe preserved the brothers the best he could, avoiding the campy stereotypes.

The funny thing, too, is it can function as a part four but it also be a stand alone that is closely derivative of the comics. You see the Time Scepter from the third live action movie but it proves nothing, in the comics the Scepter appeared as part of a sub-arc throughout the years with a character named Renet. It was fun spotting all the little homages like the Triceraton skull in Winters' office.

I loved Renet from the comics. So ditsy and busty. I think the movie was supposed to be set in the live-action movies continuity though from what I've read but it plays equally well as a stand-alone story too.

I liked the special features but I would have liked to be able to see the deleted scenes without commentary by Munroe too. He talked over some of the lines and I would have liked to have been able to hear them. Most deleted scenes on DVDs have an option of commentary or being able to see the scene without it.

I never realized that about the special features. The funny thing about deleted scene commentary is that I tune out commentary regardless and try to focus on the exact part that's different.

Me too. But sometimes when the commentator is talking over scenes it's hard to hear what the characters are saying. That's a problem for a scene you've never seen before.
