my personal beliefs concerning santa claus is that the figure is an unnecessary portrait of the Christmas season. i don't wish to inform my children of the existence of santa for numerous reasons. one is that santa is not real, and i would be instilling false ideas into my children. i am not saying that i am never going to lie to my children. i ( Read more... )

i will be praying for your family, but i completely agree with what you said about the whole santa clause thing. it is true though, because if you raise your children saying, "yeah santa clause (and any other holiday figure like the easter bunny for that matter) exists" then when you share Jesus Christ with them, and they find out that santa clause and all of those other things don't exist, how are they supposed to believe that you're not lying to them about Jesus then since you've told them that all of these other people exist when they don't?

word. that definitely creates some confusion.

santa does over shadow Jesus, as does the easter bunny. in my opinion believing in santa and other fictional characters has become more important than believing in Christ. like when a kid at school tells you santa isn't real, and you go back crying to your mom, your mom tells you that santa is infact real, and not to worry. Parents should be focusing their children on what is actually real. not pushing away Jesus, by turning his few special days into lies.

Then again, I was brought up to believe in santa, and I realized what was right.

thanks for your feedback. i understand the whole santa thing. i mean, i was raised believing in santa, and surrounded by some "not-so-Christian" ideals, and i now know God and have a relationship with Him, but also, who is to say that i would not have figured it out sooner or look at Christmas time more purely now? it is all speculation. we cannot know at all how it "would have been" nor do we need to. i just know that i would rather give the attention and integrity to God during Christmas time.

i totally agree with you, but then again, i was taught to believe in him and i turned out ok. i think if my wife and i do decide to go along with the santa nonsense, we definitely won't use him as a year-round means of getting our kids to behave. that's just stupid.

i don't necessarily believe that the idea of santa is damaging children (it could though), but it seems that it is just some baggage that should be let go of. it might possibly inhibit certain spiritual growth and maturity in children, or just cause them to be disillusioned with Christmas, when in turn it is the infamous "holiday," "x-mas," that they should be disillusioned with. either way. it is something that shouldn't be a basis for any parenting.

good ideas. I don't agree with Halloween in my household. That's what I'm passionate about. My family might not completely agree, but I've been personally attacked by demons ( ... )
