Jack Nicholson in The Shining has always annoyed the shit out of me, because his character doesn't make any sense. As you say, he looks dodgy and evil right from the start, where is the arc in that? But don't blame King there, cos he hated the film, and that TV miniseries of the Shining that was made in the 90s is his approved adaptation, which features much more motivation to explain various things (apparently, I haven't seen it).

By the way, I have a few Kubricks in my collection if you would like to borrow something. Barry Lyndon in particular, that's his forgotten masterpiece.

Well, there are a few in your rather expansive collection which I've been meaning to see for a while, for instance: Brief Encounter, Children of Men, Hellboy, League of Gentlemen Series 2 and 3, Metropolis, Night Watch, Rosemary's Baby, Sexy Beast, A Simple Plan, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Tailor of Panama, and The Wicker Man. I'd set up a list of my own collection on there, but the website layout annoyed me too much.
