Farscape: Yay or Nay?

Poll Farscape, GOOD or BAD

So...yeah. Reason for this: Amazon's selling the Farscape Ultimate Collection (all four seasons, plus Peacekeeper Wars) for a reasonable sum. But Rachel's now mocking me for she believes it's cheesy nonsense.

(also, can someone confirm that S1 through S3 were shot and presented in 4:3, not widescreen?)

It's totally awesome and cracked, and that's a good price for it. Not quite low enough for me to buy it, especially since I just had a DVD Pacific shopping spree, but enough to tempt me.

It's an epic, colourful space opera that starts out reasonably conventional and then gets increasingly exuberant.

It's a great mix of drama, story arc, action and weirdness. It's not a comedy but it has a streak of anarchic humour and weirdness that only gets wider as it goes along. Like Joss Whedon, but more unhinged.

Not to everyone's tastes and I can see why some would call it cheesy, but I highly recommend it.

EDIT: I'm almost certain that S1-3 were 4:3 only.

Agreed: I went out and bought a larger television when I learned that S4 would be shot in widescreen.

Also, it's pure crack, in both the "addictive" and "utterly insane" definitions. But it does depend on the viewer getting through the first half of S1, which is merely competent rather than astonishing.

Rachel is wrong in the head. Farscape is awesome. And you've reminded me I should get around to picking up more of the Starburst edition releases.
