Help! I need songs for this Sunday's sermon!

When you hear Wagner's Wedding March, you automatically think of weddings.

When you hear Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance, you think of graduation/commencement.

Are there other songs that have that kind of association? I was thinking maybe Hail to the Chief could be one. I need some more for Sunday's sermon.

I'm a little unsure of exactly what you are looking for, but I am sure that you can work in the IU fight song or the Star Wars Theme song somehow. :) How about the Jaws dah-nuh---dah-nuh...song. I have a strong association with that, although I know that it's not classical music. Are you looking for classical music or just any strongly associate music? What about patriotic songs? What are you looking for?

Essentially, songs that make you think of a specific event. I'm kind of trying to stay away from soundtracks, because the audience is so diverse (although I was thinking of using the 20th Century Fox Theme - it communicates that a movie is about to start). The main idea is that music is used sometimes to help prepare us for something...wedding march prepares you for a bride to enter the room, Pomp & Circumstance prepares you to be bored out of your mind for the next hour as people give the same speech you heard at last year's graduation...that kind of stuff.

I used the Jaws theme back in September. I probably shouldn't use it again. But that's a pretty good suggestion!

Taps...funerals
Doxology (for those old timers)...the service is comin' to an end. :)
Hallelujah Chorus...ya gotta stand up outta respect
the "charge" song played at games (and you know how sporty I am, so I have no clue what it's called.)
Should Auld Acquaintance be forgot...it's Christmas/New Years time and you're with family
Star Spangled Banner...once again, stand and be respectful

I used Taps, and found a recording of Auld Lang Syne, but I forgot to include it.

We played a little soundbite and had the congregation say what event the song makes you think of. One person reminded me that Taps can also signify the end of the day. I think the whole thing worked well.

Would have used the Doxology, but we use it in the middle of the service, so it doesn't quite carry the same message. ;-)
