Cultural Relevance

"Much of the church is stuck in the '50s - and what isn't, is stuck in the '60s." ~ Leonard Sweet, AquaChurch

Unfortunately, this is probably more true than I realize. How does this relate to Nouwen's statement that a pastor should be irrelevant?

There's some tension here and I'm sure the answer is somewhere in the middle.

church, leadership, quote, postmodernism

We were recently "let go" from our church position. Apparently the interim minister is more concerned with doing "When the Roll is called up Yonder" than "Indescribable." Yet another causuality of the church being STUCK. Pray for them - our departure has caused turmoil, not because of our actions, but theirs. SM

Ever since I read this, I've tried to come up with something intelligent, witty, or even comforting to say in response to this news.

All I can say is I'm sorry. We will lift the church up in our prayers.

That's an awful lot of power for an interim minister to have, isn't it?

You would not believe the power he has wielded. It's scary. It's been rough on K - yet another example of throwing the MM out with the bathwater. Financially difficult, too, as we lost 1/3 of our income. So we're praying that Melaleuca really takes off - and for YOU too!

And don't worry about being witty. Just knowing someone who's "been there, done that" and understands is enough.

Praying for Aiden...
