When you uploaded your icons, did you upload them straight from your computer to LJ or did you give LJ a photobucket URL to pull them from? If it was the former, that would be so weird. If it was the latter, that might explain it.

I don't have more than one journal. I found DW too expensive to pay for a paid account to customize.

Yes, I uploaded them straight from my computer to LJ - all of them! And at no point have I ever used Photobucket! So how did they still manage to replace my LJ userpics?? O_O

You'll be happy to know that I decided against leaving LJ, though...
