Stuck between a rock's attention span and a workplace

Right now, I'm unsure of whether I should go ahead and go to college in fall 2011 like I'd planned, sit out for a semester, or sit out for a year (though if I sit out, I'll have to get a part-time job instead).

Reasons I should go ahead and go to college:- I'd have at least 3 years and 11 months to rid my mind of creative tumors before I get a job ( Read more... )

I am going to tell you something: You will NEVER stop having creative tumors, so staving off college to give yourself more time to work through them won't really do much. If anything, college will give you EVEN MORE creative tumors. HOWEVER, you should either read that book "Refuse to Choose" that I've been talking about, or try this suggestion ( ... )

Get a big, unlined notebook (or whatever sort of blank book makes you feel happy and calm) and anytime you have a creative tumor, open to a fresh page and start writing about your creative tumor. Write every idea you have for it and any tangent you want to go on about it until you can't write anymore. If you run out of paper and have to go to a new page, do it. If you think of another idea in the middle, put it on a fresh page, then go back to your original idea until you're done. Then you can write about your new idea if you want.

This gives your brain a chance to "play" with your creative tumors without the pressure of actually doing them. It's really fun and sometimes it ends up getting them out by just giving yourself permission to spend a while focusing on them. "Refuse to Choose" calls this notebook your "Scanner Daybook". I just bought mine yesterday (though I've been scribbling ideas on blank pieces of paper in the meantime and it really does help!)I could see that helping with my creative tumors, since I tend to forget ideas ( ... )

Well, I meant creative tangents, not thought tangents, I can't help you there. I end up having to re-read entire pages of books for that very reason.

That's kind of what I thought. Thanks for clarifying!

I've only went to a trade-school, not college.

But I do have a friend who worked part time and took one class at a time.
It took a long time, but there was no student loans to pay back at the end.

I've decided to go to college for at least one semester just to see if I'm ready for it yet. :)

I don't know which you should do, only you know that. The stuff that was bought for your dorm, etc, can always be used whenever you DO go, so don't let that be a factor. It should basically be whether you feel you are ready or not. You have a little time to decide, you don't have to right now. And you have another option if you aren't sure about either of those. You could go to Weatherford for a semester or a year, maybe live in the dorm there, it's really close by and might be a good transition. Or you could hold of on college for a year, get a job and maybe an apartment with/without a roommate, and become more independent that way. Or get a job and live at home. You have a lot of options but only you can decide what's right for you! Don't let anyone tell you what to do, make sure it's what you want.

Yeah, I decided to go ahead and go to college for just one semester at first to see whether or not I'm ready yet.

No one can make the decision for you, but look at your two lists, and which is longer? ;-) *hint hint*
I wish I had gone to college. I'm jealous that your family could pay for yours, mine couldn't afford it. I want to be a child psychologist and go to Uni & study it, but it's all so expensive. I hate money!!

Good luck making your decision, I know it's not an easy one. *hug*

I didn't really notice that until I was making the lists and couldn't think of any more for the sitting-out list, but since I was pretty pessimistic at the time, I decided to post this poll anyway.

Good luck making your decision, I know it's not an easy one. *hug*

Thanks! And I've made my decision for now - I decided to go to college for at least one semester just so I can see if I'm ready yet. :)
