Try to keep track of your retainer. I lost mine after I got my braces off in highschool and didn't get around to getting a replacement, and within a few months several of my teeth were right back where they started. Fortunately, the important bit stayed fixed (I had braces to close a gap where I had a second bicuspid taken out) but my lower incisors are a little crooked to this day.
Actually, mine's a permanent retainer. Which is partly why it feels weird...
Though I did lose the other kind of retainer once too, back in elementary school. I got a replacement, but I had to stop wearing it for a while because the rest of my baby teeth were coming out.
