31_Days fic: Grigori Contiuum, now with more Grigori.

This is probably the first time in this series that no canonic characters have appeared onscreen, and this gives me a chance to develop the Grigori side of the story a little more. This is also the first time I've written Enniel Prussot, whom I rather like even though he's manipulative enough to give even Gendo Ikari a run for his money: part of Enniel's secret is that he's much more jovial and inviting.

Title: "Silver General"
Day/Theme: Sept 7) the light of our armistice
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Character/Pairing: Original characters, references to Gendo Ikari
Rating: PG

Author's Note: The plot is thickening in this entry in the ambitious NGE project: I may have a rough idea of what happens, but I'm finding things out about the story and its characters as I write it, and it seems there's something a little darker about my original female character than I thought, though I think she's hiding it even from herself. Takes place sometime during Episode 7: Look closely and you might get a hint of just who Gendo's mysterious caller might be...

A black sedan with dark-tinted windows pulled up alongside her and stopped. The front passenger door opened and a young man in a silver-grey suit emerged.

"Sabia Valiant? Your guardian requests that you join him for a moment," the young man said.

"I really need to catch a train back to NERV headquarters," Sabia said.

The young man glanced into the interior of the car, then turned back to her. "Mr. Prussot has offered to drive you there."

She sighed. "All right." The guard came around the side of the car and opened one of the rear doors for her. She climbed in, blinking at the change of the light and waiting for the pale blue light from her companion's dimming AT Field to dissipate. Only then did she look up at him, letting herself meet his crimson eyes. Like most Grigori, Enniel would have stood well over six feet tall, and even at her height, she still had to tilt her face up to meet his gaze. He wore a dark blue suit which offset his nearly white hair and pale skin.

"I take it that it is your day off?" Enniel said, eying her bags. He gave a word to the driver and they pulled away from the curb.

"Yes, there hasn't been any work for me for a week now, and I decided to do a little shopping," she said.

"Have you had the chance to speak with Gendo Ikari since your arrival?" he asked, cutting to the chase and switching from English to Enochian.

"To say our conversations have been official and largely composed of monosyllables at his end is the most succinct way to describe the extent of our exchanges," Sabia replied, switching to the same. "I don't think he puts much faith in the work that I am rendering to NERV, and I think he finds me suspect."

"Have you been careful not to give him any reason to be suspicious?" Enniel asked, looking her in the eye.

"I think he is suspicious with everyone, but while I have been trying to get a sense of what's going on, I haven't been able to detect much," Sabia admitted.

"I do not contest that: I have had some dealings with him and he shut me out as well. But do not let that stop you from carrying out what I asked you to locate," Enniel said. As he said this, she felt his AT Field start to extend itself, like an angel flaring its wings in warning.

"So what brought you here, or is that none of my business?" Sabia asked, changing the subject.

"A little matter of budgeting," Enniel admitted. "The old men have been tightening the purse strings and I have had to resort to some underhanded means."

"Isn't that what you prefer doing, anyway?" Sabia teased.

Enniel glared at her, but a hint of a smile played about his lips. "It adds some interesting turns to the chess match, I will grant you that."
