Getting out to talk to people is good in general, and making plans is even better! Definitely get involved in putting on some cons, you have a lot to offer and the group may be good for you, personally and professionally.

Dunno about 'professionally', but it's good to keep using the skills I've acquired, and to have something to focus on outside my immediate vicinity. :)
