I put on my matildabishop hat to see what shari had to say about JKR's quote-y thing.

Thought I'd mention too that we are moving to Australia in July.

Looking forward to new adventures but I can only imagine how wrenching it will be to leave after 7 years. Leaving Phoenix? Not a twinge or wibble.

Oh my goodness, Australia????

My sister-in-law emigrated three years ago - loves it and the children are thriving.

Well, well, well! Of all days to check LJ (since I don't visit often and post rather infrequently) I get to see your update! Excited for you and your newest adventure, and this also means that I'll hope to get an updated address once you have one. I definitely feel for your daughters; very exciting, cosmopolitan lives they have with American parents, but now formative years in the US, UK and now Australia!! I'm not jealous at all. :P

Hope that YOU are doing well. ♥

I was thinking about you all the other day and wondering how old baby Bishop is now.

Baby is leaving primary and Jr would have gone to sixth form some where science-y. I think in Australia she'll be 3rd year in high school? We've been killing ourselves putting the house on the market, now it's on and it's time to do the school research.

It will be hard changing countries again, I know. Which city/university are you going to?

We're not even moving cities later this year, just moving from the hills on the edge of town down into the flatlands, but I suspect it will be quite a wrench. The older children go to a school down there, youngest hopefully will go there next year and eldest is looking at Uni down there next year, hubby works down there and so did I until not long ago. But the crunch is that we need a flatter house for the sake of hubby's osteoarthritic knees. *sigh*

Anyway, hope it all goes well. Being Aussie, I think it's a good move myself! ;)

Going to Brisbane! Mr Bishop says its gorgeous. Looking for schools now--know of any good ones in South Brisbane?

My fave things about England--tea, museums, gay marriage and diversity. Birmingham just full of all sorts of different kinds of folk. Totally different experience with race than they would have had in US (I think). Be interesting to see what we find in Australia.

It is gorgeous! I have a cousin who's an academic up there, (environmental) and a nephew studying engineering.

That said, there's a saying in Australia that Going to Queensland is like going back 50 years. That is due to some really conservative politics and attitudes. It should be interesting for you. I'll ask around about schools and get back to you. Gotta run and take boys to the train station.

Well umm, We have decent tea. No idea what the diversity is like in Brisbane. It's pretty diverse in Sydney and Melbourne (though a different range of ethnicities than you'd have over there) but I've only been to Brisbane once.
Gay marriage will get there eventually but probably not while Liberals (who really aren't liberal at all) are in power.

Being from Phoenix originally you may be okay but it's hot. Bloody hot and in Brisbane it's also very humid.

We moved out to Oz from Eastbourne in 1987, I was 6. Oh boy we were not prepared for the heat. Mind you, we came out here in September which was just coming up to Summer.

What the what?? I haven't heard from you in ages! Did you get my card? You're moving to Australia?? Tell Mr. B they play crappy basketball there, too. But perhaps Steve Nash will never retire and he'll still be playing when you guys finally make your way back. :)

I'm a bad communicator--but you, you're good. I did get your card! You'll probably go to Australia again, right? So place to stay in Brisbane. But what kind of sports facilities would you tour?

Well, now I have to! Whether there are Olympics or not. But haha there's still Cadbury and I've been to that factory, too.

I've never been to Queensland. That and Western Australia are the only ones I've missed. I hear there are big bugs up there.
