Objection to Paterson Joseph: same as to anyone else who fits this criterion - he's already been in it as someone else. I object to re-casting (not that my objection has stopped them to date, obviously), and that's the only reason I don't want him.

Sorry I'm late commenting on 11th Doc posts, been away.
Anyway someone forwarded a rumour today saying Matt S wasn't the first choice and Ejiofor was offered but turned it down.
I'm not sure whether this was true or fan wishful-thinking that got out of hand through the tabloid press feedback loop.
Certainly not sure PJ was anything other than wishful thinking.
But still great thing is that many people were quite excited about PJ, with the "you can't have a black doctor" crowd being a pleasingly insignificant minority.
I certainly remember him being mentioned before (around Netherwhere time) to louder and greater resitsence.

We've had fairly definite stuff from insiders saying that Moffatt chose Joseph before taking the job on, but the BBC made him go through a casting process/screen testings with more than one, and Smith was much better.
There're also talks of him being spiked because of fear of the whole race thing, but they're less substantiated.
I wouldn't like it if they recycled a previous actor for either the next Doctor or his companion like they did with Freema Agyeman. It shows an apparent lack of acting talent out there which isn't at all true. Bill Nighy is in every British film ever made but because he only seems to be limited to film work it should be OK. As much as I like the idea of Patterson Joseph being the next Doctor a surprise would be good too. If he were still alive my favourite would have been Richard Harris. Bring back the old Doctors.

I really liked him in Neverwhere, and the Marquis was just what I want the Doctor to be.

* This may be partly because of his RL presence at school functions and my derived conclusion that he was, pretty much, A Total Cock IRL.

Have you actually watched a single episode that isn't an Xmas special yet?

Um. I think I would have to watch Doctor Who in private then.

Though the most pleasing part of the poll is learning that I'm not alone in thinking Bill Nighy would be a terrible choice...
