You had a weapon with a print, but no other eyewitness testimony as to what he did with the weapon. That means we only have the one guy's testimony, and his story "evolved

You actually made it on a jury. You are the first person I know who has ever served on a criminal case.
I was called for jury duty once for a medical malpractice case and wasn't picked because I work for corrections.
