Chapter 11:
Nino was jolted to his senses when a bucket of cold water was poured over him. His eyes widened in surprise and his body jerked but fell back onto the floor immediately after. Nino tried to take in his surroundings. He was lying on the deck of a cruise. Oh great! Why must he be on a cruise?! Thankfully, he could see the city’s skyscrapers in front of him, which meant that the cruise was docked at the pier.
Wanting to get off the floor, Nino tried to feel for his hands, but when he finally regain control of them, he realized they weren’t going to be of much help to him since they were tied up pretty tightly behind his back. He then noticed that his feet were bounded too, but from his angle, he couldn’t tell if he should even bother trying to break free.
“Boss, he’s awake,” Nino heard somebody growl.
It was then when Nino noticed somebody sitting on a deckchair at the other end of the cruise, looking at him with much interest. Nino didn’t even need to use his brains to figure out that he was the mastermind behind his kidnap, and most probably the person who wanted him dead.
“Thanks, Koki,” the man replied, strutting up at him. Nino couldn’t get a good look at the guy’s face because of the bright lights behind him.
Nino felt red hot anger rushing through him, he badly wanted to kill this jerk for trying to kill him, and then kidnapping him. But when he tried to yell out all the vulgarities that came to mind, his realized his mouth was taped shut.
“I never thought I’ll feel so disgusted seeing you up close,” the man in black said to him, his voice low and icy, it gave him Goosebumps, “you are very lucky you know that?”
The man continued walking towards him at snails pace, “When I tried to kill you off the first two times, that stupid Matsumoto Jun just had to show up,”
No matter how hard Nino tried, he couldn’t move any further away from that guy. The man whipped out a pocket knife from seemingly nowhere, “Now I finally have you in my hands…”
The man reached him and delivered a swift kick to his stomach, making Nino wince in pain. Then the man bent down and hauled him up by his shirt. If the situation weren’t so tense, it would have been pretty impressive for the man to be able to lift Nino up with just one hand, but then again, Nino was pretty skinny.
In his weaken state, Nino couldn’t find the energy to retaliate. But it’s not like he could since his hands and feet were bound. Despite being at the same height as the other guy, Nino still couldn’t see his face thanks to his spinning head and that ridiculously large pair of sunglasses the man had on.
“You know, I wanted you killed instantly,” he continued, hauling Nino over to the side of the boat, “but I wanted him to see it for himself,”
The man dragged Nino and leaned him against the railings of the boat. Nino would have toppled over the railing and fell into the sea if he weren’t for the rough grip that man had on his shirt.
Placing the knife against his neck, that man whispered into his ear, “don’t worry, he’ll be here soon. Just enjoy your last minutes of living,”
To say that Nino was scared would be an understatement. He was freaking out. Nino never ever considered that he would die this way, not even when he was PI. But the world was full of surprises. Nino could feel every thump of his heart as the man slid the blunt side of the knife back and forth against his neck. Who was that ‘he’ that guy was referring to anyway? Jun? Someone from AMOS? Nino just couldn’t figure it out.
Just then, he heard footsteps coming there way.
“Boss, he’s here,” informed the other man named Koki, “but he’s not alone,”
“Who’s he with?” barked the guy with the knife.
“Mastumoto Jun,”
Jun? That means Jun can’t be the ‘he’ that guy was referring to. Who else could it be? But Nino didn’t need to figure that out.
“Kame?!”
Despite his blurred vision, Nino could tell who it was. He saw that posh designer coat before.
“Jin, you’re here. And it looks like you brought Jun too, but that’s okay,”
“Kame, what are you doing?” asked Jin looking extremely flustered, walking up to them, “Why are you holding Nino hostage?”
“Don’t come any closer!” yelled the man named Kame, pointing his knife at Jin. “Just watch from there,”
With the knife back at his throat, Kame continued, “This is for you, Jin,”
“What?!” cried Jin, trying to run up to where Nino and Kame were, but the one named Koki was holding him back, “what are you talking about?”
Nino watched the scene unfold. He still had no idea what the hell was going on. Who is this Kame person? What had he got to do with Jin?
“I know you still like that Matsumoto Jun,” continued Kame, positively sobbing, “I saw how depressed you were when you saw that newspaper article and that video!”
In the blink of an eye, Kame used the knife in his hand and sliced a deep cut across Nino’s face, making the captive whimper in pain.
“I promised to make you happy, didn’t I, Jin,” Kame continued, pointing the now bloody dagger at Jun who was struggling against Koki, trying to get to Nino.
“But no matter how much I tried, you still remained dejected,” said Kame in a quivering voice, pointing the knife back at Nino’s throat.
Nino tried to not faint upon realizing what was going on. All these times, his life was in danger because he was ‘caught’ being with Jun? How fair is that? And this Kame person wanted to kill him because of that? Nino really couldn’t see the logic. Struggling to keep alert, Nino didn’t see or feel Kame shift the knife from his neck to his stomach.
Killing this little slut who had been flirting with Jun would make you happy, wouldn’t it?” asked Kame
“Kame! Don’t!” cried Jin.
But it was too late. Nino felt a white hot pain in his stomach and would have cried out if it weren’t for the tape around his mouth. Seconds later, a faint metallic smell entered in nose, but before Nino could register that he had been stabbed, he heard a loud splash and the next thing he knew, the surface of the water became further and further away from him.
His throat was burning and his lungs screamed for oxygen. Instead of air, all Nino got was cold water in his nose when he tried to breathe in and blood in his mouth. He tried trashing about, hoping he could get to the surface, but his movements were restricted, his energy level near zero and not to mention that burning pain in his stomach. So this was how he was going to die?
He took one last look at the surface of the water, trying to force a bitter smile as he thought about what so good about dying while everything started blacking around him.
At least he won’t have to share a bed with Jun anymore.

Jin peered anxiously over the railings of the boat, desperately praying that two heads would pop out from the surface of the water, but nothing happened. When Nino was stabbed and pushed over board, Jun had suddenly turned DoS. Shoving Koki to the floor, Jun dashed up to where Nino and Kame were and dived in.
The waves continued hitting the boat as if nothing had happened. Jin tried not to panic as he realized he couldn’t even catch a glimpse of them from where he was, and was starting to feel terrible. It was his fault that things ended up this way. If only he hadn’t read that newspaper article out of curiosity, if only hadn’t click on that link on Youtube.
“You still like him, don’t you,” Jin heard a voice mumble as a pair of hands encircled his waist.
“No, I don’t. Not since he cheated on me two years back,” replied Jin softly, turning around so he could return Kame’s hug, “if I did, I wouldn’t have agreed to be with you,”
Kame felt like stabbing himself as he realized what was going on. He had put an innocent man’s life in danger twice, and killed him the third time, for no reason at all. How could he ever doubt Jin? Now he felt downright miserable for what he had just done, but what else could he do? The damage was done. He could only wait for Jun to resurface, hopefully with Ninomiya.
Luck was on their side that day, and not long after everything was made clear to Kame, two heads emerged from the water, one gulping in breathes after breathes of air while the other unconscious.
How relieved Jin and Kame felt exceed the scale, as they watched Jun drag the lifeless Nino to shore. Giving Kame a small pat on the back to reassure him, Jin sped off to the beach where Jun was headed with Nino.
By the time he had got there, Jun had already freed Nino’s limbs and un-gagged the unconscious man.
“Will he be alright?” asked Jin worriedly, watching as Jun felt Nino’s wrist for a pulse while putting an ear to his chest trying to see if Nino was breathing.
“I can feel a faint pulse, but he’s not breathing,” answered Jun, panic written all over his face, “Call an ambulance!”
“Already did,” said someone from behind Jin.
Jun took his attention away from Nino for a split second to see who the newcomer was - Kame, that cow who stabbed Nino and pushed him overboard. Jun wanted to kick his ass, he really did, but right now, Nino needed help and Jun could wait till after.
Without thinking, Jun placed both hands on Nino’s chest over where he thought Nino’s heart should be. Jun had to admit he had no idea how to do CPR, but since this was a life or death situation, he couldn’t care. No matter how many times or hard he pushed against Nino’s ribcage, Nino did seem to regain his breathing neither did his pulse rate increase. All Jun got was blood spurting out of Nino’s mouth.
Fortunately, the ambulance arrived and Nino was handed over to the professionals. Jun thought it would be the perfect time to kick Kame’s ass, but a paramedic rushed over to him and drowned him in a sea of blankets, saying something about getting warm and getting into the ambulance.
Jun remembered getting to the ambulance, but maybe because of the whining of the siren, maybe because of the paramedics going on and on in some gibberish he didn’t understand, maybe because he had just emerged from the cold sea, either ways, Jun found his eye lids getting heavier and heavier. He wanted to make sure Nino was fine, he really did, but he just couldn’t overcome the need to sleep.
~*~*~*~*~*~
His eyes snapping open in a split second, Jun tried to not to collapse onto the floor and go back to sleep. He blinked his eyes, once then twice. Where the hell was he anyway? And why was he in a suit?
Taking in his surroundings, Jun noticed that there were a few people gathered around him, all dressed in their formal attire just like he was. They all had their heads hung and none of them made any sound. The scene in front of him was starting to freak Jun out. He wanted to just run away. But where could he go? Heck! He didn’t even know where he was. The last thing he remembered was him in the ambulance with Nino. And then he either fainted or fell asleep. Speaking of Nino, where is he? Was it fine? Did the doctors manage to save him?
All those questions started flooding Jun’s head, together with other questions about where he was and what he was doing there.
“Jun?” came a voice. Spinning around, Jun saw Ohno, who was also in a suit. AMOS’ leader looked even more sleepy and usual. And if Jun wasn’t seeing things, his leader looked rather depressed and his eyes were red. He was really starting to panic.
“Leader, what’s going on? What happened?” asked Jun a little too loudly, attracting the attention of the people around him as he grabbed his leader by his shoulders and shook him.
“Can’t you see for yourself?” asked his leader quietly, pointing to his right.
Jun’s instinct told him to not turn around. He could tell from Ohno’s voice that something terrible had happen, and he knew he didn’t want to find out. But that stupid curiously of his got the better of him, and he turned.
Curiosity killed the cat, or in this case, Jun.
Jun froze in shock as he saw what Ohno was pointing to. It was a casket. This wasn’t any funeral.
It was Nino’s.
