Chapter 11:

Hands in his pockets and his white hood over his head, Ohno strolled down the streets of Tokyo, the light rain drizzling over him.

Ohno had no fixed destination, just walking were ever his legs to him. As he walked, he noticed a whole long line of females outside a store. Some of them were students in their school uniform while some are middle-age house makers, most of them carrying their groceries.

It was weird to see such a long line of people, it stretched all the way along the road that Ohno couldn’t see the start. Squinting from across the road, he saw some people coming from the direction where the queue started holding the same white plastic bag white plastic bag, giggling excitedly with their friends.

Ohno’s curiosity was aroused, so he crossed the street and followed the queue. When he got to the start, Ohno’s heart skipped several beats.

It was Nino’s latest single.

Ohno stood there with his mouth wide open, gaping at the giant poster of Nino. Ohno tried his best not to drool at the picture of Nino on a hill with his guitar at night with the dark sky lit by shooting stars, but failed miserably.

His attention was torn away from the poster when through his peripheral vision he saw a shop attendant staring at him in a very peculiar way. He saw her write something on a piece of paper before passing it to him.

“Are you here to buy Nino’s single” the paper read. Ohno didn’t know why but he nodded. So while the attendant went off to grab a copy for him, and a whole bunch of ladies who spent so long queuing stared at him for being able to ‘cut queue’, Ohno wondered how the attendant knew he was deaf, or why she asked if he wanted Nino’s single.

It was only when Ohno was walking off with the same white plastic bag when he realized he was quite famous and most people knew who he was, and he was staring at Nino’s poster quite intensely.

With his prized possession in hand, Ohno walked back to where he came from, the art gallery.

Nino hid in the corner, hoping no one, especially the reporters, would recognize him and question why he was here.

With all the bustling of people looking at paintings, even Nino’s sharp ears could not pick out Ohno’s voice. Was the painter even here? Nino started to doubt that Ohno was there since he had been waiting for over an hour, and still no sign of the painter.

Maybe it was best if he just left.

He was about to do so when he heard a group of people walking past him. Their conversation made his freeze on the spot.

“Did you see that painting of the Ferris Wheel? It was simply amazing!” said the first voice.

“Yes, it was fantastic. But is it me, or did those figures in the top carriage look a lot like Ohno himself and Ninomiya?” said the second voice.

“You mean the blind musician? Come to think of it, it does,”

Nino didn’t hear the rest of the conversation for his head went blank. Ohno painted a picture of them? How could it be? He didn’t have the guts to contact Ohno ever since the fishing trip, and Nino heard Sho on the phone talking to Matsumoto about what happened to him after the trip.

This made Nino want to see Ohno all the more, and tell him how he really felt. While in mid-thought, Nino felt someone tap his shoulder. Nino spun around, only to realize he had no clue who he was facing.

“It’s me, Matsumoto,” introduced the person him front of him. Without giving Nino a chance to explain, Jun placed something into Nino’s hands.

Nino didn’t need to see to know what was in his hands. It was a star shaped CD cover, the one and only, and it was his latest single. The one he wrote for Ohno. Jun grabbed Nino by his free hand and pulled him.

“Satoshi bought your CD and was reading the lyrics in his dressing room,” explained Jun, “and I’m sure you’ve heard about Satoshi’s painting,”

Before he knew it, him and Matsumoto were in a life heading upwards. It took only a few seconds for the lift to reach where Matsumoto wanted to take him and out of the lift and then down a corridor they went.

Nino heard the turning of something which he strongly suspects is a doorknob, and soon enough a door swooshed open and he was thrust inside the room.

“Nino?” he heard Ohno’s sweet voice calling him.

Nino lowered his head as Ohno reached out, held his hand and pulled him to the sofa.

“Nino, Sakurai told Jun who told me that you hated boating, I’m sorry for making you go onto a boat,” said Ohno, cupping Nino’s cheeks. Nino saw Ohno’s imagined face in his head staring straight at him with large pouty eyes.

Nino closed his eyes and thrust the CD cover at Ohno, “What is this all about?” he asked.

Ohno tried his best to lip read, but could only catch a ‘what’, but when he saw the cover, he realized what Nino was talking about, and that Jun had swiped it from his dressing room when he busy reading the lyrics.

“..I…I” stuttered Ohno, the words he always wanted to say to Nino stuck in his throat refusing to come out.

But what Nino did next shocked Ohno. In the blink of an eye, Nino flung his arms over Ohno and hugged his as though Ohno might disappear.

“Nino…” breathed Ohno, shocked but delighted.

Reluctantly, Nino let Ohno go and raised his hands. Slowly, he signed, ‘I love you’. Ohno was more a taken back by the fact Nino confessed to him by the fact that Nino learnt sign language for him.

Ohno replied, “I love you too,”

Epilogue:

So, needless to say, Ohno and Nino were cuddling on the couch, both with their eyes closed and neither making a sound, enjoying the darkness and the silence.

Nino trailed his hand over Ohno’s face, mapping it with his hand and his imagination. His predicted look of Ohno was quite similar to the actual one, and he smiled. He might not be able to see, but he could witness the miracles that Ohno can capture on his canvases.

Ohno breathed in Nino’s scent as he snaked his arm around Nino’s to pull him closer.  With Nino’s hair tickling his face, Ohno grinned. He might not be able to hear, but he could listen to the melodies that Nino can produce on his instruments.

From the security room, two smiles widened as they saw what happened in the dressing room through a small black and white TV.

“We’re such geniuses,” said Jun, complimenting himself more than his accomplice.

Sho kept quiet, looking intently at the screen. His heart sank as he saw Nino, the Nino he had been crushing on for god knows how long, with Ohno. Sho felt a poke in the shoulder.

“Hey, you agreed to let him go,” informed Jun, “I managed to, so you should too,”

Sho nodded and wiped off a single tear that escaped his eyes, “Wanna go grab some coffee?”
