Chapter 18
Nino hated the beach.
Every step he took, his feet sunk deeply into the ground, every meter closer he was to the sea, his face become wetter with salt water. Nino looked out into the vast ocean, empty except for a small boat, which was merely a dot in the limitless horizon.
The boat has to be Ohno’s. If anybody could fish continuously for who knows how long, it has to be Ohno.
“Ohno-san!” yelled Nino, waving his hands in the air. No response. He tried again. No response again.
From the corner of his eye, Nino spotted a boat house, which he was guessing kept a boat which Nino could take to fetch Ohno.
That’s what he did.

“What’s for dinner?” asked Ohno, beaming from ear to ear after a very successful fishing trip, with Jun in tow.
But instead of getting a reply, all he got was Sho and Aiba staring at him as though he was from another planet.
“Where’s Nino?” asked Sho, his motherly instincts working up, “he went to the beach to find you,”
“Nino? I haven’t seen him at all, I was in the painting room for at least 3 hours!”
Sho’s ‘motherly hen scale’ shot up to the maximum possible, “but he went to find you at least 15 minutes ago! And he’s not back yet! What if something terrible happened to him?”
Ohno replied calmly, “Nino will be fine, once he realize I am not at the beach, he’ll come back,”
“I don’t think he will come back anytime soon,”
All heads turn to stare at Aiba who proceeded to point at the tv screen.
“A storm’s coming in fast,” said the colorful box, “it’s going to be the worst storm we experience in years! Everybody is advised to stay indoors,”
Sho’s fuse blew.
“How could you do that to Nino?” roared Sho, grabbing Tegoshi, who was attempting to escape, by the collar and shook him violently, “you knew the storm was coming and you purposely sent Nino out!”
But before Sho could even land a punch on Tegoshi, Jun sped out of the room.

“Oh crap,” mumbled Nino, his hands on the steering wheel desperately gripping on to it. Nino felt a wave of dizziness as yet another strong wave hit his motor boat. Nino resisted the urge to throw up as tried to get his weak arms to steer. They refused to cooperate. His legs felt like jelly and his head was throbbing like mad.
Ohno’s boat was just in front of him, he could almost reach it! Just a little bit more, but his legs refused to obey, instead they just collapsed under him. Nino bit his tongue, trying to divert his attention from his churning stomach, but the non-stop waves made him more and more nauseated.
Lying on the cold floor of he boat, Nino cursed Ohno for not coming back by himself, hoping his hatred for Ohno would make him ignore the frigid rain which came down like a swarm of needles. But Nino was too fond of Ohno to blame him, that his small frame started shivering so badly it could have shaken the whole boat.
A lightning bolt flashed through the sky.
Nino tried to extent his hands towards the steering where, but together with his exhausted arms and blurring vision, Nino’s arms fell back to his side. Just then, an awfully large wave crashed into Nino’s boat, overturning the entire craft. Before he knew it, Nino found himself engulfed in icy cold salt water. The coldness managed to somewhat jolt Nino to his senses, but he was too drained to do anything about the situation.
“Why does the world hate me so much?” thought Nino to himself, his fighting sprit to stay afloat getting weaker and weaker, “fine, I admit it really is Game Over,”
But, as usual, things refuse to go Nino’s way.
As Nino sank deeper and deeper into the bottomless ocean, a pair of hands grabbed him by his shirt and hauled him out of the water.
“Nino!” shouted Nino’s rescuer, “Nino, wake up!”
Nino lay lifeless on the back seat of the Jet Ski. Jun, who was busy shaking Nino awake, failed to notice the gigantic wave heading straight for them.
Hugging the unresponsive Nino closely to him, Jun closed his eyes, bracing for the impact as he and Nino were sent flying into the water.
Jun didn’t know whether it was because of the water of if Nino was really that cold.
“Hang in there!” yelled Jun to the unmoving Nino, pulling Nino’s arm over his shoulders as he tried to swim towards the shore.
