Now that the reaper war is over, they've finally got time to haul her out of cold storage. Benezia now has to adapt to a galaxy where her homeworld is in ruins, she's viewed with deep suspicion and even hostility, and her formerly shy, awkward daughter is one of the most powerful people in the galaxy. When last we left our intrepid hero, she'd soldiered through the mother of all hangovers, given a bratty kid a few life-lessons and beaten the snot out of a famously obnoxious reporter...It wasn't long after sunset that Aethyta, in a properly foul mood, returned to their little cabin on the freighter. She'd wiped the camera clean, but it had turned out that the blasted woman had the equipment - and the sense - to live-stream copies of her footage to a backup site in Cianna. Aethyta was certain that she could have broken into it remotely, given enough time, and wiped the drives clean of anything incriminating (and maybe even left a little present for her besides), but time was a luxury she didn't have: the reporter had been stirring even as Aethyta had set off to break into her shuttle to see what damage control could be done. Besides, she didn't have any of her usual gear for that sort of a job

But, like all those other times, it'd only be a distraction, and a temporary one at that, something to hold the grief and the rage at bay until she bottomed out and had no choice but to face them, cold and sober and miserably alone. And she wasn't sure she could afford those sorts of distractions anymore, in any case. She wasn't as young as she was, and he was slowing down. Gone were the days where she could go on a month-long bender with impunity

She caught herself just as she began to reach out, down towards Benezia to do... Well, she wasn't exactly sure what she wanted to do, try to ease the frown away or feel the texture of her skin again or something. Bad enough that she was standing here and staring at her like some sort of pathetic stalker with a doomed crush. Instead, she let her hand drop back to her side and edged carefully around the cot towards the bed. Her nose wrinkled involuntarily as the sour smell of dirty linen and old sweat hit her, and she quickly realised why Benezia had opted for the cot, for all that it was the smaller and considerably less comfortable of the two options. But it wasn't like Aethyta hadn't slept in worse places over the course of her life. Far worse places. And someone had at least taken the rubbish bin she'd emptied her guts into away

There was another rustle of blankets, and another slow, measured, exhalation, and then a third. Aethyta could practically see Benezia, in her mind's eye, forcing herself to relax, inch by inch, the way she would after particularly stressful or frustrating day at or on the Forum, or in council, or even after a particularly heated argument with Aethyta. When Aethyta's own temper had cooled enough to go looking for her then-bondmate, she'd usually find Benezia meditating out in her favourite garden, weather permitting, or in the quiet of the household shrine if not

No Aethyta, you don't have to fuck your way across the galaxy, you just have to make sweet, sweet love to your former bondmate, then everything will be ok, I promise. Please, can this happen?

Haha! Passbyer giggles much at "baby sis" cuddling. But Anon, you forgot to include the attempted headbutt from Aethyta clan before Aethyta reigns them in.
