2003: Code 46, Timeline 2004: Casshern, The Final Cut 2005: Island, V for Vendetta 2006: Children of Men, Paprika, The Fountain, Ultraviolet 2007: Sunshine, Timecrimes 2008: 9, Hellboy 2, Push 2009: Avatar, District 9, Star Trek
I don't know how many of these would be CLASSICS but at least enjoyable for me.
I think the article is mostly about well received, critically loved movies which have a enough speculative fiction to make people think. I liked Ultraviolet as well, but man oh man it was not a good movie.
Wow, I've seen 13 of those movies. I expected WAAAAAY less, like, 3. Or 5. I'm not hugely into the sci-fi movies. (Shame shame, I know. Throw your vegetables now.) Probably because I wouldn't classify a lot of those as sci-fi, but. I'm not an expert.

The Day the Earth Stood Still
ET
Primer
Children of Men
Moon.
I feel weird at never having seen E.T. of all the ones listed (I keep telling myself to pick up Moon).

It's a good list but I fail to see how they're CLASSICS when three of them are from 2009/10.

Of course only 1/3 didn't bomb in theaters.
