So I'm watching NOVA on PBS...

And they're using music from Mass Effect, ME2 specifically. Just little clips but it's kind of weird and random.

This should be the link to watch it online: NOVA Doomsday Volcanoes. I noticed them in just the first 10 minutes or so ( Read more... )

fun, music

Aw man, the video isn't available. :( But that might be because I'm in Canada...

Eh, not Mass Effect music in particular, but I do remember one Verizon commercial that used music really similar to the galaxy map theme and it weirded me out. I've also heard Two Steps from Hell music in other places. I know those songs don't *belong* to Mass Effect, but I tend to associate stuff like Heart of Courage and Protectors of the Earth with the ME trailers they're in. :)

How far into the show? I'm watching it now and there is some stuff at the four minute mark that would work well in Mass Effect, but isn't.

EDIT: 7:25 mark has the character creator screen music. "Horizon" at the 10:25 mark.

I'm not crazy! DH though I was nuts saying it was ME music. He got bored and turned it off after 30 minutes so I don't know if there is more.

I was watching something else the other day where I could have sworn I heard some ME music but I don't remember what it was. Definitely didn't expect to hear it on PBS though.

My DH is interested in the video (his degree was in geology), but he'd be useless in identifying any ME music. Even when I had him listen to it at 7:25 and 10:25 and called out what the music was, he just stared at me blankly :\

My DH thought it was too fluffy. He wanted more hard science. It just wasn't a topic I was overly interested in. We have different tastes in NOVA episodes sometimes.

Now the question is: Did NOVA buy the rights to use this music? (IDK how music licenses are handled these days...)

Because it makes me remember how a soundtrack I distinctly remember from an old PS1-era Spyro game would be used in occasional low-budget documentaries on History channel years later...

I wonder if game music rights are actually a bit cheaper to buy? Especially a really old one. It's like how certain movies always seem to turn up on TV- they're probably cheaper to get rights for.

There might be an educational exemption too. I hear a lot of anime/game music on public radio.

I swear for a while it seemed like the Pirates of the Caribbean theme was everywhere.
