See, this theory actually made me think of Overlord and David - how he was "hooked into the machine". Quite literally. So it's not quite without precedent.
I've never seen Battlestar Gallactica, but I did try to watch it once. It....really wasn't my thing. So spoil away! I'm interested to know what you're thinking.
That's a nice theory =D Makes much more sense than my "medigel of doom" and "shadowy CA Corp" pet theories.
*I think some dev said that the Reaper "ships" are shells and that they have the form of the reaped species inside that body. It could be "assuming direct control" of it if they can exist outside that structure.
*I'm not sure about the hero-becomes-reaper idea. On one hand, Harbinger refers to itself as "we" constantly ("We are the harbinger of your destiny"), but on the other hand it could be one way to explain why they want to capture Shepard, and maybe TIM wants to become a Reaper and that's why he turns on you ._. ?
*I'm hoping the method to destroy the Reapers will amount to more than "let's blow up their mothership!"

A dev has confirmed that, in fact. :-) It's why all of the Reapers look like squid/cuttlefish.

As I said to jessieheart up above, it actually made me think of the Overlord DLC when I read it. The idea of David becoming one with the machine as he did, that literal representation of man transcending to machine just seems too...huge? integral? to let it go as merely a DLC. And I don't think it was really referencing the poor people who became Reaper Oatmeal, either. They really aren't on the same level.
Also, word to your mentoin of Shepard's capture. I've been trying to figure out exactly why the Collectors wanted your body so badly that they were going to buy it from the Shadow Broker. There has to be a reason beyond turning you into Reaper baby formula, right?

I agree. I think the way he suggested the game ends is fairly anti-climactic, but I still like the rest of it. :-)
Actually, the Collectors were interested in other species, wanting things like left handed krogan. Okeer traded with them to get the tech to make Grunt, so he probably dealt in bodies. Maybe the sales were to decide which species (singular or plural) to use this cycle? And then Shepard kicking Sovereign to kingdom come made them zero in on humans.
If it's an individual controlling the ship-shell, they must have a way to make the individual interface with the machine without him losing his marbles. Or was it David was too flawed for it to work?
Hmmm... and Harbinger controlling the Collectors, if the part of the theory is true, the individual controlling the Collectors may be Prothean.
I kind of like this idea. And it feeds well into the KOTOR ending of "either I end this horrible threat to the universe or, hey, I got evil and take over the universe AS A GOD."
I've never played KOTOR, but it's kind of cool to know that that sort of ending isn't unprecedented at Bioware. But. Um. I'd really really like an option for a happy ending with at least one of my Sheps.
So long as it's a choice, and not something we get forced in to with a certain level of Renegade; Alex Shepard may be a jerk to the people she helps, but she's still not going to be turning herself into a Reaper any time soon, and I'm sure there are others who agree.
(Why yes, I am still upset that because her Renegade was higher than her Paragon, she wouldn't be able to kill the council and get humanity to lead a multi-species Council... Noooo, apparently she kicks puppies and eats kittens for breakfast....)
