While any surgery is horrifying, wisdom tooth removal is pretty routine. I had all four of mine removed in two separate procedures and they were both uneventful. The first time, my bottom two were taken out and it took a while for the swelling to go down, but I think that was mainly because I had them out like 5 days before band camp and all that clarinet playing didn't help much. The second time, with my top two, I was eating solid food within 2 days. So as a semi-official expert on wisdom tooth surgery, I say DON'T PANIC. You will be woozy and in pain afterward, but as long as you follow doctor's order about meds and hygiene, you'll be fine in a few days.
Pretty much everyone is telling me DON'T PANIC--except my mom. I suppose it would serve me right if something were to go wrong (in a "listen to your mother" precautionary tale way). ~_~
I'm distracting myself by making a non-boring list of post-op foods to look forward to.
