If you see only one movie in your life--make sure it's Citizen Kane.

But if you plan to see more than one movie, Bitch Slap is the one for you.

I probably don't want to know the answer to this question (especially because I intend to eat popcorn when we go to the movies this weekend) but why is it so unhealthy for us? I mean, I get the fact that we're consuming it so much in its high fructose form is a problem, but we would be no better off consuming that in sugar...we just don't have many sugar cane farms in the US.

Studies are inconclusive all around, but one of the theories is that the addition of HFCS to food makes you want to eat more of it than you would in the case of cane sugar, and that the increased amounts of HFCS in U.S. food is directly linked to the increase in obesity and child diabetes.

A more radical theory (and one that I'm less inclined to take at its word) is that, due to the chemical processes required to make HFCS, there are trace amounts of carcinogens in it that may lead to cell tissue damage and various forms of cancer.

The movie is kind of miserable about the alternatives, though, because the corn grown to make HFCS and cow feed really can't be used for anything else. It's chalky and mostly unfit for direct human consumption like corn on the cob or popcorn.

Hey, what theatre/movie time are we attending? Any time is good for me.
