as a lawyer I find this kind of stuff extremely interesting and for the most part funny... if you don't - sorry for spamming your friends page. otherwise - enjoy :D

the survey was taken in the UK, thus so many ridiculous laws from there. there aren't any Polish ones here but I'm sure if I dug deep enough... ;)

Hee. I knew of some of these.

The one from Bahrain is rather sad than funny and the one with the age of consent in Japan is kinda... scary. I hope they still convict pedophiles though.

8. In Milan, it is a legal requirement to smile at all times, except funerals or hospital visits (5%)

Good to know for future reference. W.T.F???

you're completely right - some of these are ridiculous in a not so funny way :/. it's mind-boggling what passes for a law in some places, hm?

hehe - I think I broke the law when I was in Milan quite a few times :P. I managed to escape the long hand of law, though *phew* :D.

these are so ridiculou and weird and strange and scary. WTH!?!??! I read them to my mom and she gave me a paper with some more:

- in Wisconsin it is illegal to serve apple pie without cheese
- in Sienna/Italy is is illegal for women named Maria to work as a prostitute
- in Switzerland it is illegal to slam car dors (huh? hould've known that three days ago, ahem... ;))
- in Oklahoma you're not allowed to carry a weapon openly UNLESS you're followed by an Indian
- in San Francisco it is not allowed to polish your car with your underwear

Wow some of these are scary-funny. Some of them... OMG! It's still almost illegal to be a woman, let alone single... in the US! I can't believe these laws are still on the books.

That one in Japan tho... icky scary.

And I guess it's a good thing I'll never have enough money to travel to Milan 'cause everyone always tells me I have to smile (when I'm completely relaxed WTF, my mouth has that natural down angle, which makes my real smile, kinda scary.) LOL

I wonder what would the judge do if some of these laws were brought up in a case... I know that my judge would try to find a way around it to make a just decision and not a ridiculous one, but in some cases it seems to be quite difficult... if it was in Poland, the illegal parachuting on Sunday would most probably be brought before the Constitutional Tribunal and disposed of quite effortlessly :). but it's different with Anglo-Saxon model of common law...

yeah, the Japan example is horrible... I truly hope they have some other rules actually in praxis and courts go around this ridiculous law :/.

heh - it seems that we have something in common - I'm sure I broke this Milan law quite a few times when I was there... it was a nice day but exhausting and I'm certain by the end of it I wasn't smiling. and when I don't have a particular expression on my face I look sad, so I guess I'm lucky I wasn't arrested ;).

an apple pie without a cheese is illegal??? damn... it actually makes me think of the purpose of some laws. the one with cheese and with polishing a car with underwear (WTH?) take the cake, seriously... I read about the purpose of some of the laws from the first list (e.g. not dying in the Houses of Parliament rule comes from another rule - apparently anyone who dies there is entitled to a state funeral), but I honestly can't think about the reason behind most of these ridiculous regulations... I just hope that no one actually forces the scary ones...

lol, I guess Switzerland cherishes its quietness, doesn't it? :P be careful, sweetie ;)
