I'm from Germany and when I first came I sometimes talked in German involuntarily too, it just comes out on his own.

Well, I would say the worst thing about this story is the structure, it's very choppy without enough description of what's happening. I once had a story that had a structure this bad, so a reviewer told me. I read it over, and sent him a thank you note pointing out how right he was.
