Yep, I'm wondering why she called him kouhai (even if I haven't watched this yet *gets stoned*) But I think Kame said something faintly similar in CTKT about a guest who was born in 1985, and he said he was older than him/ her, and Kame was born in 1986. @.@

Alternately, someone said that age in Japan can also be measured with reference to the seasons, i.e., from Spring to Winter, not very sure. I barely even remember this tidbit, as I only saw it from one of the comments from a forum :0
