Paul is still being scary and strange. He's been staring at me all day off and on during meals and lessons and he's acting like he thinks I was in his room last night!

If I were a more suspicious person, I'd think someone around here was playing tricks with Polyjuice Potion. That's what Fran and Sybill think. It's exactly the sort of thing Hornby would do, only she usually does things like that to Myrtle, not me, because she hates Myrtle particularly and because I'm still friends with Dylan Mulciber, even if Sybill isn't. (Sybill should really have been a Ravenclaw. Telling Fran about Moody and Dylan was very un-Hufflepuff-like, even if Sybill likes Fran just as much as she used to like Dylan, which I think she's finding out perhaps she doesn't.)

So Hornby doesn't have a motive.

But Erskine does...maybe we should find out where she was last night. Sadly, it's entirely too easy to believe that Erskine has so little self-respect as to pretend she's me and go to Paul's room and do those things I'd never do unless I was married.

It's a little sad--more than a little, actually--though, to find out that someone like Erskine could fool Paul so easily into believing that she was me. And I always thought Paul had more self-control than that, and wouldn't let me do something I'd later regret for a moment of fun. I suppose I know better than that now.
