We both slept like proverbial logs last night and didn't wake up til later than usual. Had a nice lie in. I've just started reading Jacqueline Winspear's new book, Leaving Everything Most Loved. She has a series set in the interwar period in London that is not like anything I've ever read before. Highly recommended. The first one in the series is ( Read more... )

Still waiting for Leaving Everything Most Loved to arrive here. If you like these, you might enjoy the Victoria Thompson gaslight series beginning with Murder on Astor Place.

Those are the ones set in NYC, right? I've seen them around, but haven't read one yet. Will put on list.

Hope your birthday was grand!

Yup, they're set in turn-of-the-century NYC.

Thanks for the birthday wish. Unfortunately, Passover birthdays pretty much suck but I'll be making up for it after the holiday is over :->

I recommend these as well. BTW, if you like mysteries and are running out of stuff to read, I have a recommended list with descriptions on my web site.

There's an SF list on the site too. I hasten to add that these lists are just my personal choices, not necessarily objectively Worthy.

I'd like to go visit my daughter for her 36th birthday, but think I'll leave that until next week. Reading The Big Time by Fritz Leiber for our local club discussion on Friday and finding it kind of tough going. I know the book is short compared to modern novels, but I'm about three chapters in and haven't yet figured out what's going on or where the plot is going, or even if there is one. Watched the first five episodes of Downton Abbey over the weekend, and might like to get more from Netflix or Infinity. Might do some reviews over at GoodReads today if you want to take a look. Expecting some snow this week, but lots of bright sunshine in the meantime. You and Jordin should consider Colorado for retirement.

I loved the first two series & eagerly awaited the 3rd. Which are still sitting, unmatched, in the depths of our TiVo.
