Parents at Work

As I revise and think about my current work in progress, FIREFIGHTER’S KID, I’ve pondered the way children perceive their parents’ work lives. My dad was a small town volunteer firefighter for all of his adult life. I can remember the first time the light bulb actually went off for me. I went to the movies and saw Backdraft. I went home and called my dad and thanked him, I had never really taken the time to realize how brave he actually was and how humble he was about his bravery.
